Terms of Service

Effective May 11, 2026

Welcome to Echo. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a contract between you and Echo (“we”, “us”) and govern your use of the Echo website, app, and related services (collectively, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Who can use Echo

You must be at least 13 years old to use Echo. If you live in the EU, the minimum age is 16, unless your country has set a different age between 13 and 16. By signing up, you confirm that you meet the minimum age in your country.

Echo is not directed at children under 13. If we learn we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it. Parents who believe a child has signed up may contact hello@echoapp.io.

2. The thing you record

Echo lets you record a short audio response (up to 60 seconds) to a daily prompt. By recording and submitting a response, you agree that:

  • Your recording will be made publicly audible by other Echo users (unless you mark it as anonymous, in which case your username is hidden but the audio is still public).
  • You own or have the right to share whatever you record.
  • You grant Echo a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, transcode, transmit, cache, and display your recording for the purpose of operating the Service.
  • You can delete any of your recordings at any time. Deletion removes the audio from the Service within 30 days.

3. Things you may not do

You agree not to:

  • Record or share illegal content, threats, harassment, or hate speech.
  • Record content that depicts, sexualizes, or endangers minors. Any such content will be reported to law enforcement.
  • Impersonate other people or misrepresent your affiliation.
  • Record other people without their consent.
  • Scrape, copy, or redistribute Echo recordings made by others without permission from the recording's owner.
  • Use Echo to spam, phish, or distribute malware.
  • Try to reverse-engineer, interfere with, or overload the Service.

We reserve the right to remove content, suspend accounts, or terminate access at our discretion to keep the Service safe.

4. Reports and moderation

Any user can report a recording. Recordings with three or more pending reports are automatically hidden until a human reviews them. Our moderation decisions are final, but you may appeal by emailing appeals@echoapp.io.

5. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials safe and for all activity on your account. You can delete your account from Settings at any time. Deletion permanently removes your profile and recordings; some data may remain in encrypted backups for up to 30 days.

6. Payment, if applicable

Echo is free to use. We may introduce paid features in the future. If you are a Founding Voice (one of the first 100 accounts), you receive lifetime free access to any paid features we introduce.

7. Intellectual property

The Echo name, logo, designs, code, and brand are ours. Recordings you make remain yours; see Section 2 for the license you grant us to host them.

8. Disclaimers

Echo is provided “as is” and “as available”. We make no warranties, express or implied, about the Service, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Echo and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or reputation, arising from your use of the Service.

10. Changes

We may update these Terms. If the changes are material, we'll notify you by email or in-app at least 7 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Termination

You can stop using Echo at any time by deleting your account. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (e.g., IP, disclaimers, liability) will survive.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York.
